Norway women’s relay superior

For the second team decision at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 in Oberstdorf, the 4 X 5 km women’s relay was on the program in the Ried Stadium, in which two times had to be run in the classic style and two times in the skating technique. In this relay race, everything initially pointed to a Scandinavian duel between defending champions Sweden and Norway. However, the Russian quartet was also considered to have a chance of winning the title. But things turned out differently than expected: Defending champion Sweden fell behind at the second changeover and from then on was no longer in the game when it came to awarding the medals. So the way was free for a duel Norway against Russia for WCH gold. But Therese Johaug was able to gain the decisive advantage on her lap and passed it on to final skier Helene Marie Fossesholm. Fossesholm was able to keep the advantage over Natalia Nepryaeva from Russia and led her team to victory and the World Champion title with a lead of 26.6 seconds.

For Therese Johaug it was the third World Champion gold in Oberstdorf. It was also exciting in the duel for bronze, where Finland surprisingly won against the USA in the final sprint. The DSV quartet, which was in the fight for bronze for a long time, had to let go, but finished in a strong fifth place. Disappointingly, defending champion Sweden finished 2:00 minutes behind in sixth place.
