Successful title defense for Emilien Jacquelin
The world champion in the Pokljuka pursuit is Emilien Jacquelin, just like last year! The Frenchman finished the 12.5 km men’s pursuit race in ideal conditions in Slovenia with a gala performance. 20 shots and 20 hits were enough for the 25-year-old Jacquelin to successfully defend his title. From the very beginning he controlled the race on the perfectly prepared track – at the shooting range he gave the competition no chance with a safe and fast shooting time and now secured his World Championship gold after his bronze medal from the sprint race. Second went to the very strong Swede Sebastian Samuelsson, who had a hard fight for the silver medal in the last round. Johannes Thingnes Boe, who entered the race as one of the big favorites, secured third place despite two penalty laps and thus 300 extra meters. His bronze medal is the first individual medal for the Norwegian men. Quentin Fillon Maillet in fourth place and Simon Desthieux in fifth confirm a very strong overall French performance. For the Norwegian team shooting star Sturla Holm Laegreid could still secure a place among the top 10 with his sixth place.
Disappointing was once again the performance of the DSV – men, where Arnd Peiffer as the best German finished 20th.

That was a perfect race from me today. A medal before the race was my goal, but that I could defend my title from last year surpasses everything. A great day for me.

With two penalties you can’t win a gold medal at a world championship. In terms of skiing everything was fine, but we have to analyze the shooting. If I see the gap, I could have won more today, but I’m still happy about bronze.
Johannes Thingnes Boe
