JULIA SIMON SPRINTS TO VICTORY IN OTEPÄÄ

At the first World Cup premiere of the women's biathlon in the Tehvandi stadium in Otepää, a French athlete entered the list of winners with Julia Simon, just as Quentin Fillon Maillet did the day before in the men's event.

She won the 7.5 km women's sprint with a lead of 11.0 seconds over Vanessa Voigt from DSV. Third place went to Karoline Knotten from Norway, also the big surprise of the race, as well as the first podium place of youngster Vanessa Voigt.
The top favorites all came away empty-handed and missed the podium.
Hana Oeberg from Sweden finished in sixth place two places ahead of her younger sister Elvira.
For the World Cup leader Marte Olsbu from Norway it was only enough for tenth place with two penalties.

2. Vanessa Voigt, GER      + 11,0 Sek.
3. Karoline Knotten,NOR  + 12,8 Sek.
 
Statement Julia Simon:" It was a very good race from me today, and after a long time it was nice to run in front of the audience again, who cheered us on fantastically.
The atmosphere here in Otepää is wonderful, and of course my victory at the World Cup premiere here makes me happy."
 
Statement Vanessa Voigt:" I don't know what happened again today.
I had extra power in the final lap and gave everything.
 I am totally happy with my first podium in an individual race in the World Cup.
A surprising first World Cup year for me."
 
Statement Karoline Knotten:" I am simply speechless with my best World Cup result and third place on the podium.
That was not to be expected.My shooting was top today, I had super material and gave everything until the end.You always have to believe in yourself, and never give up."
