With the 7.5 km sprint race of the women the biathlon elite started in Annecy - Le Grand Bornand (FRA) into the last World Cup weekend before the turn of the year. In bright picture-book weather, a sold-out grandstand and 9000 enthusiastic fans at the track around the "Biathlon Stadium Sylvie Becaert", the current overall World Cup leader Marte Olsbu Røiseland convinced once again. The Norwegian showed a flawless shooting performance and won against the French Anais Bescond with 15.4 seconds. Third place went to Sweden's Elvira Oeberg, 16.1 seconds behind, who made it to the podium with a sensational run performance despite two penalty laps. For Marte Olsbu Røiseland it was the twelfth World Cup victory in her career. Tiril Eckhoff (NOR) finished eleventh with one penalty loop. Julia Simon (FRA) made two misses on her home track and finished thirteenth. Unfortunately the DSV athletes were not able to finish in the top ten in this sprint race. Denise Herrmann was the best German biathlete and finished fourteenth.

I enjoy the time here in France, on the track and also outside. The panorama here is simply fantastic. And these fans along the track today, the atmosphere, it gives me goose bumps. And winning on top of that makes everything perfect.
