With the 15 km mass start race in \u00d6stersund an exciting and highly thrilling biathlon season was brought to a fitting end. Special attention was paid to the duel of the two Norwegians Johannes Thingnes Boe and Sturla Holm Laegreid, because the fight for the overall World Cup was decided in this last race. Similar to the women’s mass start before, this race was also strongly influenced by the unsettled wind conditions. Nothing was decided until the last shooting and the athletes delivered a thrilling head-to-head race. The Frenchman Simon Desthieux coped best with the conditions and thus won the last race of the season. He celebrated a commanding victory in \u00d6stersund with a lead of 8.2 seconds. Eduard Latypov from Russia finished second behind him, third went to Johannes Thingnes Boe. The Norwegian literally shouted out his joy and relief at the finish, as this rank was enough for him to successfully defend his title in the fight for the overall World Cup. Sturla Holm Laegreid, his biggest competitor and team mate, finished eighth with four missed targets. Until half of the race, however, it looked as if this season’s shooting star would also win the overall victory in his first World Cup winter. But Johannes Thingnes Boe was able to turn the tide in his favor in the second half of the race and thus turn the team-internal duel once again. Laegreid had to invest a lot of energy and tried again and again to fight his way to the top. The young Norwegian was not able to make up for his mistakes in the last shooting, which finally meant the overall victory for Johannes Thingnes Boe. In the mass start ranking Johannes had to let his older brother Tarjei go ahead. A sixth place was enough for Tarjei Boe to win by four points. Nevertheless, this was an absolutely successful season for Laegreid. He wins the small crystal globe for the pursuit race, the individual World Cup and he is the best athlete under 25. In the overall World Cup, he made it very difficult for his teammate Johannes Thingnes Boe throughout the season and is in second place with a gap of only 13 points.<\/p>\n

For Vetle Christiansen (4th, NOR), Jakov Fak (7th, SLO) and Johannes Dale (9th, NOR) there were once more top 10 finishes at the end of the season.\u00a0Quentin Fillon Maillet finished twelfth, Aleksander Andersen from Norway was 15th. A good end of the season was experienced by German Benedikt Doll, who led the field for a long time in the top duo with Eduard Latypov. He finished in a good fifth place.\u00a0Erik Lesser finished the mass start in 13th position after four misses, Roman Rees was very stable at the shooting range with two misses, but he lost too much time on the track and finished in 16th position.<\/p>\n

That was a hard piece of work today, I was under a lot of pressure. I am quite exhausted now, but overjoyed about my successful title defense. It wasn’t exactly my season, but the overall World Cup makes it all worthwhile.\u00a0What Sturla has shown this season is incredible. With his performances at the shooting range he regularly puts his competitors under pressure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That was pure suspense until the end.\u00a0I congratulate Johannes on winning the overall World Cup! I could keep the fight open until the end but I know where I lost the race today. However, I am very satisfied with what has happened this season and what I have achieved.\u00a0It was my first World Cup season – which took a lot of energy.\u00a0Now I am looking forward to my vacation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Erfolgreiche Titelverteidigung f\u00fcr Johannes Thingnes Boe<\/h6>\n

Mit dem 15 km Massenstart-Rennen in \u00d6stersund wurde eine aufregende und h\u00f6chst spannende Biathlon-Saison geb\u00fchrend beendet. Ein besonderes Augenmerk lag hier vor allem auf dem Duell der beiden Norweger Johannes Thingnes Boe und Sturla Holm Laegreid, da sich der Kampf um den Gesamtweltcup erst in diesem letzten Rennen entschied. \u00c4hnlich wie bereits bei dem Massenstart der Frauen zuvor wurde auch dieses Rennen von den unbest\u00e4ndigen Windbedingungen stark beeinflusst. Bis zum letzten Schie\u00dfen war noch nichts entschieden und die Athleten lieferten sich ein packendes Kopf an Kopf-Rennen. Am besten kam\u00a0der Franzose Simon Desthieux mit den Bedingungen zurecht und gewinnt somit das letzte Rennen der Saison. Er feierte mit einem Vorsprung von 8,2 Sekunden einen souver\u00e4nen Sieg in \u00d6stersund. Eduard Latypov aus Russland kam hinter ihm als zweiter ins Ziel, dritter wurde Johannes Thingnes Boe. Der Norweger schrie im Ziel regelrecht seine Freude und Erleichterung aus sich heraus, da ihm dieser Rang zur erfolgreichen Titelverteidigung im Kampf um den Gesamtweltcup ausreichte. Sturla Holm Laegreid, sein gr\u00f6\u00dfter Konkurrent und Mannschaftskollege, kam mit vier Schie\u00dffehler als achter ins Ziel. Bis zur H\u00e4lfte des Rennens sah es jedoch so aus, als w\u00fcrde der Shootingstar dieser Saison in seinem ersten Weltcup Winter auch den Gesamtsieg gewinnen. Johannes Thingnes Boe konnte jedoch in der zweiten H\u00e4lfte des Rennens das Blatt zu seinen Gunsten wenden und somit das teaminterne Duell noch einmal drehen. Laegreid musste besonders viel Kraft investieren und versuchte sich immer wieder an die Spitze vor zu k\u00e4mpfen. Jedoch konnte der junge Norweger seine Fehler aus dem letzten Schie\u00dfen nicht mehr aufholen, was letztendlich den Gesamtsieg f\u00fcr Johannes Thingnes Boe bedeutete. In der Massenstart Wertung musste Johannes jedoch seinem \u00e4lteren Bruder Tarjei den Vortritt lassen. Tarjei Boe reichte ein sechster Platz um sich mit vier Punkten Vorsprung durchzusetzen. F\u00fcr Laegreid war dies dennoch eine absolut erfolgreiche Saison. Er gewinnt die kleine Kristallkugel f\u00fcr das Verfolgungsrennen, den Einzelweltcup und er ist der beste Athlet unter 25 Jahren. Im Gesamtweltcup machte er es seinem Teamkollegen Johannes Thingnes Boe die ganze Saison \u00fcber sehr schwer und belegt mit einem R\u00fcckstand von lediglich 13 Punkten den zweiten Rang.<\/p>\n

F\u00fcr Vetle Christiansen (4., NOR), Jakov Fak (7., SLO) und Johannes Dale (9., NOR) gab es zum Abschluss der Saison noch einmal Top 10 Platzierungen.\u00a0Quentin Fillon Maillet\u00a0 beendete das Rennen auf Platz zw\u00f6lf, Aleksander Andersen aus Norwegen wurde 15.\u00a0Einen guten Saisonabschluss erlebte der Deutsche Benedikt Doll, der lange im Spitzen Duo mit Eduard Latypov das Feld anf\u00fchrte. Er kam auf einem guten f\u00fcnften Rang ins Ziel.\u00a0Erik Lesser beendete den Massenstart nach vier Strafrunden auf Position 13,\u00a0Roman Rees zeigte sich zwar am Schie\u00dfstand mit zwei Fehler sehr stabil, er verlor auf der Strecke jedoch zu viel Zeit und kam somit auf Platz 16 ins Ziel.<\/div>\n

Das \u00a0war heute ein hartes St\u00fcck Arbeit, ich stand ganz sch\u00f6n unter Druck. Ich bin jetzt ganz sch\u00f6n kaputt, aber \u00fcbergl\u00fccklich \u00fcber meine erfolgreiche Titelverteidigung. Es war nicht unbedingt meine Saison, doch der Gesamtweltcup macht alles vers\u00f6hnlich.\u00a0Was Sturla diese Saison gezeigt hat ist unglaublich. Mit seinen Leistungen am Schie\u00dfstand setzt er seine Konkurrenz regelm\u00e4\u00dfig unter Druck.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Das war Spannung pur bis zum Schluss.\u00a0Ich gratuliere Johannes zu Gewinn des Gesamtweltcups! Ich konnte den Kampf bis zum Schluss offen gestalten aber ich wei\u00df, wo ich heute das Rennen verloren habe. Jedoch bin ich top zufrieden was in dieser Saison alles passiert ist und was ich erreicht habe.\u00a0Man bedenke es war meine erste Weltcup Saison – die brutal viel Kraft gekostet hat.\u00a0Jetzt freue ich mich erstmal auf meinen Urlaub.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
