At the season’s finale, the last decisions of this season are scheduled for the women’s and men’s sprint / pursuit and mass start races in the Jämtland Arena. The final originally planned for Oslo had to be postponed due to the corona virus. Östersund then agreed to host the last six races. In the women’s event, Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff won the overall World Cup ahead of schedule and succeeds Dorothea Wierer. The South Tyrolean was able to win the big crystal globe the last two years. For Tiril Eckhoff it is the crowning conclusion of an outstanding season. In the fight for the overall men’s World Cup, on the other hand, it comes to the great duel of two teammates – the defending champion Johannes Thingnes Boe and Sturla Holm Laegreid – who are just 25 World Cup points apart before the first race.

That two of our guys are fighting for the overall World Cup makes us very proud. It has been an absolutely successful season for us and we are more than happy about the successes of our athletes. In the women’s race everything is decided, Tiril has more than deserved it. Both Sturla and Johannes are very tense. Both know that there is a lot at stake. No matter who will be the winner on Sunday, both had an absolutely insane season, with Sturla’s successes surprising us a lot and bringing us joy.

Per-Arne Botnan

Nobody could have predicted that the victory for the overall World Cup would be decided in Östersund, at the last station, and that of all places these two Norwegian teammates would fight for it. But one thing is for sure, the overall World Cup will stay in Norway – and the final countdown is on.

The Final Countdown – letztes Biathlon Wochenende der Saison

Pictures: K.
