Sprint victory for Lukas Hofer in Östersund

The second World Cup victory of his career celebrated the South Tyrolean Lukas Hofer at the 10 km sprint in Östersund and confirms his top form at the end of the season. As in the last races before, Hofer proved his strength and didn’t give the rest of the competition a chance. Absolutely concentrated was his series at the shooting range and just as fast he was on the skis. Hofer delivered a flawless performance and won highly deserved ahead of Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden with a gap of 4.0 seconds in second place and Tarjei Boe who was the best Norwegian and finished third with a gap of 14.4 seconds. The early decision in the fight for the overall World Cup had to be postponed again. Johannes Thingnes Boe is still the overall leader in the ranking. He finished the race one place behind his great competitor and teammate Sturla Holm Laegried in seventh place, who could not make up enough points to pass him. Simon Desthieux in fourth and Quentin Fillon Maillet in fifth, both lie in wait for a good result in the chaser. Also running in the top-10 ranks were Johannes Dale (8th, NOR) and Vladimir Iliev (9th, BUL). Vetle Christiansen (NOR) in twelfth, Alexander Andersen (16th, NOR) and Jakub Stvrtecky (19th, CZE) all reached places in the top 20. Best German was surprisingly Roman Rees who managed an excellent tenth place, Benedikt Doll finished disappointingly 31st, two places ahead of Erik Lesser.

The third place is a great starting position for me for the pursuit. We will see what will happen, but I am very satisfied.

I am very satisfied with my running performance – not with my two mistakes. But there are still two more chances for me.

In the first round I lost time, where is just a mystery to me. But the second round and the shooting were OK. It remains very exciting.

Den zweiten Weltcupsieg seiner Karriere feierte der Südtiroler Lukas Hofer beim 10 km Sprint in Östersund und bestätigt seine Topform zum Ende der Saison. Wie schon in den letzten Rennen zuvor beweist Hofer seine Stärke lässt der übrigen Konkurrenz keine Chance. Absolut konzentriert war seine Serie am Schießstand und ebenso schnell war er auf den Ski unterwegs. Hofer lieferte eine einwandfreie Performance ab und siegte hochverdient vor Sebastian Samuelsson aus Schweden mit einem Rückstand von 4,0 Sekunden auf Platz zwei und Tarjei Boe, der als bester Norweger mit einem Rückstand von 14,4 Sekunden als Dritter ins Ziel kam. Die vorzeitige Entscheidung im Kampf um den Gesamtweltcup musste erneut vertagt werden. Johannes Thingnes Boe ist weiterhin der Gesamtführender in der Wertung. Er beendete das Rennen einen Platz hinter seinem großen Konkurrenten und Teamkollegen Sturla Holm Laegried als Siebter, der damit nicht genügend Punkte gut machen konnte, um an ihm vorbeizuziehen. Simon Desthieux auf Platz vier und Quentin Fillon Maillet als fünfter, liegen beiden in Lauerstellung auf ein gutes Ergebnis im Verfolger. In die Top-10 Ränge liefen außerdem Johannes Dale (8., NOR) und Vladimir Iliev (9., BUL). Vetle Christiansen (NOR) als zwölfter, Alexander Andersen (16., NOR) und Jakub Stvrtecky (19., CZE) erreichten allesamt Plätze in den Top 20. Bester Deutscher war überraschend Roman Rees, dem ein ausgezeichneter zehnter Platz gelang, Benedikt Doll kam enttäuschend als 31. ins Ziel, zwei Platze vor Erik Lesser.
