Martin Fourcade, einer der erfolgreichsten Biathleten der Welt hat seine Karriere beendet. Nicht nur durch seine einzigartigen Erfolge, sondern auch durch seine Persönlichkeit und seine Stimme, die er zum Beispiel immer wieder für den sauberen Sport erhob, wurde er zum Helden, zur Biathlon Legende. So hat er den Biathlon Sport über Jahre geprägt und wird als Athlet eine große Lücke hinterlassen, die nicht mehr so schnell zu schließen ist.
Martin Fourcade, one of the most successful biathletes in the world has ended his career. He became a hero, a biathlon legend, not only because of his unique successes, but also because of his personality and his voice, which he raised again and again for the clean sport. Thus he has shaped the biathlon sport over the years and as an athlete he will leave a big gap which cannot be closed so quickly anymore.
Martin Fourcade – eine Erfolgsgeschichte
Aufgewachsen in den französischen Pyrenäen, bei seinen Eltern und mit seinen beiden Brüdern fand Martin Fourcade schon sehr früh seine liebe zur Natur und zu ausgiebigen Outdoor-Aktivitäten. Durch seinen größeren Bruder Simon Fourcade, der bereits seine Karriere als Biathlet eingeschlagen hatte, kam auch Martin zum Biathlon. Der erste Höhepunkt seiner noch jungen Karriere war dann die Juniorenweltmeisterschaften 2007 in Martell, wo er sich mit der Staffel seine erste Medaille sicherte. Es folgten einige Podestplätze im Juniorenbereich und somit folgte auch schnell sein erstes Weltcupdebüt 2008 in Oslo. Dort und in einigen nachfolgenden Rennen sammelte er erste Weltcuppunkte und etablierte sich damit im französischen Weltcup-Kader. Mit der Zeit gelangen Martin immer bessere Platzierungen und einige Top-Ten Plätze im Weltcup. Sein großer Durchbruch kam in der Saison 2009/2010 als er bei Olympia in Vancouver im Massenstart die Silber-Medaille holen konnte. Anschließend folgten sein erster Weltcup-Sieg in Kontiolahti und einige Podestplätze im Weltcup. Bei der darauffolgenden Weltmeisterschaft im sibirischen Chanty-Mansijsk erkämpfte er sich seine ersten WM-Madaillen, darunter eine goldene in der Verfolgung. Danach war der Franzose nicht mehr zu stoppen. Er gewann sieben Mal hintereinander den Gesamtweltcup, zahlreiche kleine Kristallkugeln und insgesamt 28 WM-Medaillen, davon 15 in Gold. Die beiden silbernen und fünf goldenen Olympia-Medaillen komplementieren seinen einzigartigen Erfolg.
Nach seinem Formtief in der Saison 2018/2019, in dem seine Leistung stark abfiel und er auch einige Wettkämpfe in Übersee ausließ, kämpfte er sich in seiner letzten Wettkampf-Saison wieder zurück in die Weltspitze und gewann wieder einige Weltcup-Rennen. Seine langjährige Erfolgskarriere krönte er schließlich bei den Weltmeisterschaften 2020 in Antholz. Dort erkämpfte er sich zwei goldene Medaillen und eine Bronze und entschied seine Biathlonkarriere mit diesen Medaillen zu beenden. Vor seinem letzten Rennen im finnischen Kontiolathi gab er seinen Rücktritt aus dem Profisport bekannt und siegte dann in seinem letzten Verfolger noch ein 79. und letztes Mal, am gleichen Ort, an dem er 2010 seinen ersten Weltcupsieg feierte. Den Gesamtweltcup konnte er ganz knapp gegen Johannes Thingnes Boe nicht verteidigen. Mit seinem letzten Rennen, aufgrund der gesundheitlichen Situation ohne Zuschauer ausgetragen, beendete er emotional seine einmalige Karriere und geht damit als einer der erfolgreichsten Biathleten aller Zeiten in die Geschichte ein.
Martin Fourcade – a success story
Raised in the French Pyrenees, with his parents and with his two brothers, Martin Fourcade found his love for nature and extensive outdoor activities at a very early age. Through his older brother Simon Fourcade, who had already started his career as a biathlete, Martin also came to biathlon. The first highlight of his still young career was the 2007 Junior World Championships in Martell, where he won his first medal with the relay team. A few podium places in the junior class followed and so his first World Cup debut in Oslo in 2008 followed very quickly. There and in some following races he collected his first World Cup points and established himself in the French World Cup squad. With time Martin achieved better and better placements and some top ten places in the World Cup. His big breakthrough came in the 2009/2010 season when he won the silver medal in the mass start at the Olympics in Vancouver. This was followed by his first World Cup victory in Kontiolahti and several podium places in the World Cup. At the following World Championships in Chanty-Mansiysk, Siberia, he won his first World Cup medals, including a gold one in pursuit. After that the Frenchman was unstoppable. He won the overall World Cup seven times in a row, numerous small crystal globes and a total of 28 World Championship medals, 15 of them in gold. The two silver and five gold Olympic medals complement his unique success.
After his loss of form in the 2018/2019 season, in which his performance dropped roughly and he also missed some overseas competitions, he fought his way back to the top of the world rankings in his last competition season and won some World Cup races again. His successful career of many years was finally crowned at the World Championships 2020 in Antholz. There he won two gold medals and one bronze and decided to end his biathlon career with these medals. Before his last race in Kontiolathi, Finland, he announced his retirement from professional sport. With the victory in his last pursuit he won a total of 79 World Cup races. He could not defend the overall World Cup against Johannes Thingnes Boe. With his last race, due to the health situation without spectators, he emotionally ended his unique career and thus write biathlon history as one of the most successful biathletes of all times.

Diesen bezeichnenden Satz sagte der französische Sportdirektor Stephane Bouthiaux beim Weltcup in Hochfilzen und lässt damit erahnen wie wichtig eine perfekte Ausrüstung für den Top-Biathleten war. Ohne das richtige Material, das den Athleten bestmöglich auf der Loipe unterstützt, können Profisportler nicht ihr gesamtes Potenzial ausschöpfen. Und gerade passende Handschuhe mit atmungsaktiven Materialien und einem optimalen Grip auf der Innenhand können im Biathlon entscheidend sein. Dabei spielt die Innenhandtechnologie Sharktec® bei KinetiXx Handschuhen eine große Rolle. Durch die 3-D Elemente in Form von Vulkanen und Pyramiden sorgt sie für einzigartigen Grip, beste Stoßdämpfung und damit für eine höhere Kraftübertragung auf den Skistock. So wurden die Hände des Athleten genau vermessen und dann in der eignen Entwicklungs- und Musterabteilung in Metzingen in Handarbeit genäht und auf seine Hände maßangefertigt. Davon war Martin sofort begeistert, da solch einen Service komplett neu für ihn war. Aber auch als Botschafter für die Handschuhe konnte Martin das KinetiXx Team stets unterstützten, sodass die Bekanntheit gesteigert und weitere große KinetiXx Athleten gewonnen werden konnten.
In der letzten Wintersaison entwickelte Martin zusammen mit KinetiXx dann seine erste eigene Kollektion mit seinem eigenen Design, in den französischen Farben und mit seiner Unterschrift auf dem Handgelenk des Handschuhs. Zum einen können Winter- und Langlauffans so die gleichen Handschuhe wie Martin tragen und ihre Leistung auf der Loipe perfekt unterstützen und zum anderen wurde ein Martin Fourcade Fanhandschuh in die Kollektion aufgenommen, der als allround Handschuh ein Must Have für jeden Martin Fourcade Fan ist.
Das KinetiXx Team bedankt sich nun, zum Ende seiner Karriere, von Herzen bei Martin, für das Einbringen seiner Erfahrung und für die professionelle und freundschaftliche Zusammenarbeit in den letzten Jahren. Auch in Zukunft wir Martin Teil der KinetiXx Family bleiben und es warten andere, aber bestimmt genauso interessante und spannende Projekte auf uns. The first KinetiXx top athlete
Martin also had a very special pioneering role for us as glove experts at KinetiXx Sports. When the KinetiXx brand was founded for customers at the W+R Group in 2012, the company used its many years of experience in glove manufacturing to develop innovative winter sports gloves with the latest technologies and high-quality materials. When Martin was able to test the new gloves with a special palm made of 3D elements for increased grip on the pole 2018, he was immediately thrilled. The exceptional French talent became the first top biathlete to become Ambassador of the KinetiXx gloves after the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. So it was also Martin, who contributed a large part of his know-how and his wishes to the further development of the gloves and thus constantly improved them. The KinetiXx team worked closely with Martin on design, fit, palm and materials.
“If the gloves weren’t good, Martin wouldn’t wear them.”
This significant sentence was said by the French sports director Stephane Bouthiaux at the World Cup in Hochfilzen and gives an idea of how important perfect equipment was for Martin. Without the right material, which supports the athlete in the best possible way on the tracks, professional athletes cannot reach their full potential. And just the right gloves with breathable materials and an optimal grip on the palm can be decisive in biathlon. The Sharktec® palm technology plays a major role in KinetiXx gloves. With the 3D elements in the shape of volcanoes and pyramids, it ensures unique grip, best shock absorption and thus a higher power transmission to the pole. Martin relied on this technology from the beginning. But a perfect fit also plays an important role with gloves. The athlete’s hands were measured precisely and then sewn by hand in our own development department in Metzingen and made to measure for his hands. Martin was immediately enthusiastic about this, as such a service was completely new to him. But Martin was also able to support the KinetiXx team as an ambassador for the gloves, increasing awareness and attracting more great KinetiXx athletes.
Last winter season Martin developed his first own collection together with KinetiXx, with his own design in the French colours and with his signature on the wrist of the glove. This allows winter and cross-country skiing fans to wear the same gloves as Martin and to support their performance on the slopes. The collection also includes a Martin Fourcade fan glove, an allround glove that is a must have for every Martin Fourcade fan.
The KinetiXx team would like to thank Martin from the bottom of their hearts at the end of his career for his experience and for the professional and friendly cooperation over the past years. Martin will continue to be part of the KinetiXx family in the future, and there are other, but certainly just as interesting and exciting projects waiting for us.
