Final of the Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf
At the end of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 in Oberstdorf, the race of the supreme discipline over 50 km in classic style of the men was on the program. Initially there was the expected and exciting duel between Johannes Klaebo and Alexander Bolshunov, from which at least for the time being the Norwegian Johannes Klaebo ran away as the winner. The whole race he hid cleverly in the field, let the others do most of the leading work and then struck ice-cold in the final phase. Bolshunov was still in the lead shortly before the finish sprint, but was hindered by Klaebo in the corridor and in the course of this his ski pole also broke. So Klaebo finished first, ahead of his teammate Emil Iversen and only in bronze place the Russian Bolshunov, who could not hide his disappointment at the finish.
After the race, however, things got really exciting. RSF lodged a protest against the result. Klaebo had enough space to choose another corridor, but went all the way to the outside – where Alexander Bolshunov was skiing. Because of this blockade of the Russian athlete and after a longer jury discussion Johannes Klaebo lost his gold medal over the 50 kilometers. But the gold medal will still stay in Norway: Emil Iversen slips up to the golden spot. Silver goes to Bolshunov, bronze to the Norwegian Simen Hegstad Krüger. Nevertheless, Bolshunov had another reason to be happy, as he was able to win the overall World Cup 2020 / 2021 ahead of schedule. Hans-Christer Holund was unable to defend his title from 2019 and finished fourth in the last race of the World Championships. The best placement from a German perspective was achieved by Jonas Dobler with 18th place and a gap of 2.47,1 minutes, the young Friedrich Moch was 21st with 2.57,5 minutes back.
It was not the ending one would have wished for a fair and exciting World Championships. However, the jury did not make the decision easy for themselves, which is revealed by the long meeting.
Also, all concerned and involved parties were questioned in detail. It goes on for the cross-country skiers next week to the World Cup final in Engadin, where one can look forward to exciting duels again.

1st Emil Iversen , NOR 2.10.52,9 hrs.
2. Alexander Bolshunov, RUS + 0,70 sec.
3. Simen Hegstad Krüger, NOR +8,2 sec.
I really wanted to win this title, because this race is always something special. Now it was only enough for me to win silver. Maybe I changed my skis too late, but I don’t want to make that an excuse. In the sprint I also ran out of power. I have done all the races here, which were quite exhausting.

Abschluss der Nordischen WM in Oberstdorf
Zum Abschluss der Nordischen Ski Weltmeisterschaften 2021 in Oberstdorf stand das Rennen der Königsdisziplin über 50 km im klassischen Stil der Herren auf dem Programm. Hier kam es zunächst zum erwarteten und spannenden Duell zwischen Johannes Klaebo und Alexander Bolshunov, aus dem zumindest vorerst der Norweger Johannes Klaebo als Sieger davon lief. Das ganze Rennen über versteckte er sich geschickt im Feld, überließ den anderen zum Großteil die Führungsarbeit um dann in der Schlussphase eiskalt zuzuschlagen. Bolshunov lag kurz vor dem Zielsprint noch vorne, wurde jedoch von Klaebo im Korridor behindert und im Zuge dessen brach auch noch sein Skistock. So kam Klaebo als erster ins Ziel, vor seinem Teamkollegen Emil Iversen und lediglich auf dem Bronzerang der Russe Bolshunov, der seine Enttäuschung im Ziel nicht verbergen konnte.
Nach dem Rennen wurde es jedoch erst so richtig spannend. Der RSF legte Protest gegen das Ergebnis ein. Klaebo hatte ausreichend Platz sich für einen anderen Korridor zu entscheiden, ging jedoch ganz nach außen – dort wo Alexander Bolshunov lief. Aufgrund dieser Blockade des russischen Sportlers und nach einer längeren Jurydiskussion verliert Johannes Klaebo seine Goldmedaille über die 50 Kilometer. Die Goldmedaille bleibt aber in Norwegen: Emil Iversen rutscht auf den Goldplatz nach. Silber geht an Bolshunov, Bronze an den Norweger Simen Hegstad Krüger. Einen anderen Grund zur Freude hatte Bolshunov dennoch, da er vorzeitig den Gesamtweltcup 2020 / 2021 für sich entscheiden konnte. Hans-Christer Holund konnte seinen Titel von 2019 nicht verteidigen und belegt im letzten Rennen der WM den vierten Platz. Die beste Platzierung aus deutscher Sicht gelang Jonas Dobler mit Platz 18 und einem Rückstand von 2.47,1 Minuten, der junge Friedrich Moch wurde mit 2.57,5 Minuten zurück 21.
Ich wollte unbedingt diesen Titel gewinnen, denn dieses Rennen ist immer etwas besonderes. Jetzt hat es mir nur zu Silber gereicht. Vielleicht habe ich zu spät die Ski gewechselt, was ich aber nicht als Ausrede darstellen möchte. Im Sprint ging mir dann auch die Kraft aus. Ich habe hier alle Rennen absolviert, die recht kräftezehrend waren.
